Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
In the future when technological enhancements and robotics are a way of life, Major Motoko Kusanagi and Section 9 take care of the jobs that are too difficult for the police. Section 9 employs hackers, sharpshooters, detectives and cyborgs all in an effort to thwart cyber criminals and their plans to attack the innocent.

1. SA: Public Security Section 9; SECTION-9
Air Date: 2002-10-01
Public Security Section 9 is an elite special ops unit that works directly under the control of the Prime Minister. They've been called in to rescue a high-ranking government official from a hostage situation. But something doesn't seem right to Major Motoko Kusanagi.
2. SA: Proof of Recklessness; TESTATION
Air Date: 2002-10-01
Kenbishi Heavy Industries has built a state-of-the-art multiped tank. There's only one problem–it's gone haywire and started moving on its own. Section 9 is called in to stop it, as the Self Defense Force will not get involved. Now, it's up to Motoko, Batou, and the rest of Section 9 to stop the tank and figure out what made it go berserk in the first place.
3. SA: A Modest Rebellion; ANDROID AND I
Air Date: 2002-11-01
A certain type of android, the GA07_JL, nicknamed Jeri by its users, has been affected by a virus. Recently, all Jeri model androids have been committing "suicide". Section 9 is called in as it may be related to a virus detected in an android at the National Assembly Building.
4. C: The Visual Device will Laugh; INTERCEPTER
Air Date: 2002-11-01
While working late, Togusa gets a call from one of his colleagues from his days on the police force. It seems that he's uncovered something strange happening with the investigators in the Laughing Man Unit, a special task force formed to catch the infamous cyber criminal known only as the Laughing Man. But before he can meet with Togusa, he's killed in a car accident.
5. C: The Inviting Bird will Chant; DECOY
Air Date: 2002-12-01
The Laughing Man, having returned after a six-year absence, threatens to assassinate the Superintendent-General of the police. Aramaki, however, thinks it's a cover-up. He briefs Section 9 on the prime suspect, Nanao=A, an incredibly gifted programmer who developed the micro-machines that are currently the foundation of Serano Industries.
6. C: The Copycat will Dance; MEME
Air Date: 2002-12-01
As Togusa and Bato track down Nanao, Motoko and Paz are attempting to protect the Superintendent-General at a press conference about the police misuse of interceptors. When the virus does hit, Motoko and Paz have to act fast to save the intended victim. Meanwhile, the road to Nanao=A hits a dead end.
7. SA: Idolatry; IDOLATOR
Air Date: 2003-01-01
Section 9 is on the trail of Marcelo Jarti, a South American revolutionary hero who has arrived in Japan. However, Jarti is a hard man to catch because he employs look-alikes to deceive people. Nevertheless, Section 9 is convinced that the one they're tracking is the real thing, and after a rather out-of-control gunbattle in an upscale hotel, they track him to an old warehouse.
8. SA: The Fortunate Ones; MISSING HEARTS
Air Date: 2003-01-01
Motoko's friend Courtin asks her to come to the hospital where she works. It seems a little girl just received a heart transplant, but the donor's family doesn't remember ever agreeing to donate the heart. When Motoko mentions this story to Aramaki, he tells them to determine if this is tied to a ring of black-market organ smugglers supposedly run by the mafia.
9. C: The Man Who Lurks in the Darkness of the Net; CHAT! CHAT! CHAT!
Air Date: 2003-02-01
Motoko enters into an online chat room devoted to the Laughing Man to see if she can find any new information on him. What she discovers is a spirited debate among the self-proclaimed "fans" of the Laughing Man, but very little hard evidence.
10. SA: A Perfect Day for a Jungle Cruise; JUNGLE CRUISE
Air Date: 2003-02-01
Marco Amoretti, a former Navy Petty Officer from the American Empire, has come to Japan and is committing heinous acts of brutality against women. Section 9 is assisted in this matter by the American Empire's CIA. While this doesn't sit well with Public Security's members, Batou finds the whole case particularly hard on his psyche as the nightmares from his past rear their ugly head.
11. C: Inside the Forest of the Sub-Imagoes; PORTRAITZ
Air Date: 2003-03-01
Togusa goes undercover at a hospital for patients with Closed Cyberbrain Syndrome, a hospital completely cut off from communication with the outside world.
12. SA: Tachikoma Runaway, The Movie Director's Dream; ESCAPE FROM
Air Date: 2003-03-01
One of the Tachikomas decides to take a little stroll through the city. It meets a little girl, Miki, who is searching for her lost dog and it agrees to help her. On their journey, the Tachikoma finds a strange box.
13. SA: Unequal Terrorist; NOT EQUAL
Air Date: 2003-04-01
In a briefing, Aramaki shows a photo of a girl who looks like Eka Tokura, the daughter of Tokura Electronics, who was kidnapped 16 years ago. But there's one problem–the photo was taken two days ago!
14. SA: Automated Capitalism; ¥€$
Air Date: 2003-04-01
The Chinese government contacts Section 9 to let them know that an assassin may have entered Japan to kill a famous reclusive millionaire. Despite their considerable efforts, however, Section 9 is unable to contact him to warn him, so they go directly to his residence.
15. SA: Time of the Machines; MACHINES DÉSIRANTES
Air Date: 2003-05-01
The Major has become worried about the Tachikomas. It appears that their AIs have developed much more quickly and in ways that were not anticipated; they have begun speaking about their "individuality".
16. SA: Chinks in the Armour of the Heart; Ag2O
Air Date: 2003-05-01
Batou goes undercover on a military base to shadow one of his former heroes, a man named Zaitsev who was an Olympic silver medalist. Now, however, he's under suspicion of espionage. Batou befriends him easily, and the two really seem to get along--which is unusual for Batou. But when Batou learns the truth behind his hero, he must make a very difficult decision.
17. SA: The True Reason for the Unfinished Love Affair; ANGELS' SHARE
Air Date: 2003-06-01
While at an international police conference in London, Aramaki drops by to visit an old flame who's now in the wine brokering business. She asks him to help her put a stop to the corruption in her company, but he tells her that it's out of his jurisdiction. Just then, however, two thieves break into the building and take them hostage.
18. SA: Assassination Duet; LOST HERITAGE
Air Date: 2003-06-01
Aramaki attends the funeral of an old war buddy, and is greeted by his departed friend's daughter. Later, Section 9 is assigned the task of protecting the Chinese Foreign Minister from being assassinated.
19. SA: Embraced by a Disguised Net; CAPTIVATED
Air Date: 2003-07-01
Section 9's next case is a rash of mass-kidnappings. Rumor has it that a crime syndicate is harvesting organs and selling them on the black market. As they research the case, they realize that time is running out.
20. C: Vanished Medication; RE-VIEW
Air Date: 2003-07-01
Togusa is on the trail of the Laughing Man again, and this time, his investigations lead him towards both a leading micromachine corporation and an NGO called the Sunflower Society.
21. C: Left-Behind Trace; ERASER
Air Date: 2003-08-01
After being shot, Togusa's in the hospital and about to go into surgery, but he is desperate to pass on what he's learned to the rest of Section 9. As Togusa fights for his life, the rest of Section 9 takes over the case, but others within the government have learned of the investigation and are not happy.
22. C: Corporate Graft; SCANDAL
Air Date: 2003-08-01
Motoko is about to be fitted for her new prosthetic body. But when the doctor arrives and begins the procedure, it's clear that she has no intent of letting Motoko out alive. Meanwhile, Aramaki receives a disturbing message that his brother has been kidnapped.
23. C: The Other Side of Good and Evil; EQUINOX
Air Date: 2003-09-01
The Laughing Man returns! And, just as he did six years ago, he kidnaps the president of Serano Genomics without being detected. Section 9 arrives at Serano's house too late, and sets out to find him.
24. C: Sunset in the Lonely City; ANNIHILATION
Air Date: 2003-09-01
The government orders Section 9 disbanded. Aramaki is taken away, and Togusa is arrested. Motoko assembles the remaining team members at HQ for one final mission. They prepare for a full-scale assault while Elite troopers and Armed Suits descend on Section 9 HQ.
25. C: Smoke of Gunpowder, Hail of Bullets; BARRAGE
Air Date: 2003-10-01
Despite their best efforts, the remaining members of Section 9 are rounded up one by one by the government forces; only Batou and Motoko are left.
26. C: Public Security Section 9, Once Again; STAND ALONE COMPLEX
Air Date: 2003-10-01
Togusa has been released from jail and he's given papers showing the dissolution of Section 9. Out of work and depressed, he tries to find information on the others, but there is nothing available. Thinking that he has nothing left to lose, he goes to assassinate the man responsible when he is stopped by–Batou!

A group of terrorists identifying themselves as the "Individual Eleven" barricade themselves within the Chinese Embassy. Section 9 is called in to eliminate the terrorists without any civilian casualties, all before the scheduled police raid.
2. DI: Well-Fed Me; NIGHT CRUISE
Air Date: 2004-01-01
A refugee living in Japan has plans to "reset the world" and change things. But are his plans merely violent daydreams, or something more sinister?
3. DI: Saturday Night and Sunday Morning; CASH EYE
Air Date: 2004-02-07
=A hacker and thief by the name of Cash Eye plans on infiltrating a vault during a party, and Section 9 is called in to prevent it. But there are a number of strange elements in this case that don't all add up.
4. DU: Natural Enemy; NATURAL ENEMY
Air Date: 2004-02-07
A routine live-fire exercise goes wrong, leaving a fleet of AI controlled helicopters flying above a refugee area, firing on anyone who comes near. And a mysterious and creepy man known as Gohda arrives to tell Section 9 how to handle it.
5. IN: Those Who Have the Motive; INDUCTANCE
Air Date: 2004-03-06
An assassination threat has been made against Prime Minister Kayabuki; Section 9 is called to serve as bodyguards Meanwhile, investigation on the Individual Eleven turns up some interesting history.
6. DI: Latent Heat Source; EXCAVATION
Air Date: 2004-03-06
A seemingly run-of-the mill hit-and-run turns into anything but when Togusa investigates. While in Tokyo, he discovers a secret from the past the GSDF is trying to keep hidden deep underground.
7. DU: Rhapsody - The Melody of a Bygone Nation; Pu239/94
Air Date: 2004-04-03
Plans have been leaked to terrorists that the plutonium recovered from the underground nuclear facility in Tokyo is to be moved. Section 9 is called in to ensure the plutonium reaches its destination, and Gohda is there again.
8. DI: Vegetarian Feast; FAKE FOOD
Air Date: 2004-04-03
While on a stakeout of a Taiwanese vegetarian restaurant, Section 9 finds out that someone is pulling strings and feeding misinformation to the Public Safety Sections.
9. DU: The Hope Named Despair; AMBIVALENCE
Air Date: 2004-05-08
The Tachikomas and the Major continue to investigate Gohda and his motives, while the rest of Section 9 are out to stop a string of suicide bombings.
10. DI: One Angry Man; TRIAL
Air Date: 2004-05-08
Togusa is brought up on charges after he becomes involved with a murder while off duty. But during the course of the trial, it becomes clear who the attorney is really after.
11. IN: Kusanagi's Labyrinth; affection
Air Date: 2004-06-05
While field testing new recruits, the Major finds herself hacked, and an old woman tells her a story from her past.
12. IN: To Those Without Even a Name...; SELECON
Air Date: 2004-06-05
The Tachikomas, Ishikawa, and Borma locate a suspicious file believed to be the Individual Eleven virus, The Major, Batou, Saito go after Kuze, and the Individual Eleven prepare to put their plan into action.
13. DI: Face; MAKE UP
Air Date: 2004-07-03
With the latest Individual 11 incident still fresh in the public's mind, Section 9 discovers that only a skilled face sculptor could have created Kuze's prosthetic face. Since only two artists fit that description, they quickly locate the craftsmen and go to question them.
14. DI: Beware the Left Eye; POKER FACE
Air Date: 2004-07-03
Saito recounts his first run-in with the Major, and how he became part of the group that would eventually become Section 9.
15. DI: Afternoon of the Machines; PAT.
Air Date: 2004-08-07
During a scheduled maintenance, the Tachikomas begin to chat away about the Individual Eleven. While talking in their new "forum", Batou and Togusa appear and take one of the Tachikomas - who just happens to be Batou's pet - with them to Spring-8 to look at the scientific evidence gathered on the Individual Eleven.
16. IN: The Fact of Being There; ANOTHER CHANCE
Air Date: 2004-08-07
The Prime Minister is alerted to the existence of "hub cyberbrains," while Ishikawa returns from the peninsula to report on what he found out about Kuze's past.
17. DI: Mother-Child Relationship; RED DATA
Air Date: 2004-09-04
Following a tip, the Major conducts an undercover investigation of Kuze in Taiwan. While there, she saves a boy running from the Mafia.
18. DI: Angel's Poem; TRANS PARENT
Air Date: 2004-09-04
The Major and Batou are flown to Berlin in an effort to track down a terrorist called "Angel's Feathers". While there, Batou attracts the attention of a young girl in a wheelchair.
19. IN: Chain of Symmetry; CHAIN REACTION
Air Date: 2004-10-02
Despite close scrutiny by the authorities, the Dejima refugees declare their independence. Kuze is suspected to be the mastermind behind this new resistance and Section 9 is sent to detain him.
20. IN: Confusion at the North End; FABRICATE FOG
Air Date: 2004-10-02
Section 9 heads to Etorofu in search of Kuze. During their investigations, the Major finds an interesting floppy disk on the body of a dead addict.
21. IN: Escape in Defeat; EMBARRASSMENT
Air Date: 2004-11-06
Much to the chagrin of Batou, Motoko, and the rest of the team, Kuze and the refugees manage to escape in one of the camouflaged boats. They are further hampered when an explosion causes heavy losses, leaving them unable to follow the fleeing boat.
22. DU: Abandoned City; REVERSAL PROCESS
Air Date: 2004-11-06
The city of Fukuoka is evacuated when a live nuclear bomb is found. With the Dejima Refugees targeted as the prime suspects, the government sends the Self-Defense Forces into the city.
23. IN: The Day the Bridge Falls; MARTIAL LAW
Air Date: 2004-12-04
The government declares martial Law in Dejima, believing that the refugees have a nuclear device and plan to use it to gain independence. When the refugees' connection to Kuze is cut off, one shot begins a bloody war.
24. IN: Aerial Bombing of Dejima; NUCLEAR POWER
Air Date: 2004-12-04
The Prime Minister is taken into custody, and the military begins its strike on Dejima. The Major and part of Section 9 head to Dejima to try to hand over the nuclear device to the military there, in order to defuse the situation, while Ishikawa heads to SPring-8 to deliver the rest of the plutonium.
25. IN: To the Other Side of Paradise; THIS SIDE OF JUSTICE
Air Date: 2005-01-08
Kuze manages to take down the jamming plane, but becomes trapped in rubble with the Major. The Tachikomas begin discussing what to do about the nuclear submarine they have spotted, and Batou manages to convince the special forces that have been sent to kill them to listen to him.
26. IN: Return to Patriotism; ENDLESS∞GIG
Air Date: 2005-01-08
The tables seem to be turning in favor of Section 9, but the nuclear missile is still being prepared for launch.
