The House at Christianshavn

The series follows the residents of an apartment building on Copenhagen's Christianshavn, as they go about their daily lives and challenges. There is Olsen, a mover with an old fashion view of the world, Clausen who runs the local pet shop, Egon the career focused assistant, their wives who work hard to keep their spouses lives together, the young couple Tue and Rikke who recently moved in, the hard working caretaker Meyer, who never puts in to much effort, and of course Emma, the innkeeper of Rottehullet, where all the important decisions are made while running up the bar tab. The series was produced by Nordisk Film for Danmarks Radio TV station between the years 1970-77. The series' first director was Ebbe Langberg, then Erik Balling and Tom Hedegaard respectively. The series was conceived by an author team of well-known Danish authors such Leif Panduro, Benny Andersen, and Lise Nørgaard.

Karla is getting a visit from her new boyfriend Egon, whom she hasn't told about her child yet. Later that day, the fire safety inspector shows up in the house following a report of someone living in the attic apartment, which is in violation of the fire regulations.

Mrs. Clausen gets something stuck in her eye while making liver paste and Mr. Clausen has to take her to the emergency room. Clausen asks Tue to look after the pet store while he is gone, but things get challenging when Tue's girlfriend, Rikke, drops of children from her job at the kindergarten.

Karla and Egon are getting married, but before they leave for the church, a premarital argument breaks out because Egon does not want Karla's child, Bimmer, at the wedding. Mr. and Mrs. Clausen are also fighting, and Mrs. Clausen ends up not wanting to go to the wedding. Both Karla and Mrs. Clausen lock themselves in their bedrooms. Luckily, expect help is at hand to grant the prospective groom and Mr. Clausen access to their bedrooms.

There has been a rubbery at an insurance company and the police suspects Larsen. He is therefore taken to the police station. The same day, Clausen discovers a new parrot that he hasn't seen before in his store.

Mrs. Olsen is getting her drivers license, much to the dismay of her husband. Things get worse when Olsen learns that his wife has failed the driving test three times and that she is attracted to the driving instructor.

With the wives away on holiday, Mr. Olsen, Mr. Clausen, and Egon are having fun until Meyer noticed that Larsen keeps coming late at night at leaving again in the early morning hours, just like back in the days when Larsen made his living as a thief. The men gather at Rollethullet to to discuss the situation and what can be done. There, using cards, Emma divines and foretells that all the men will meet blonde women.

The wives have just come home from their holiday to Mallorca, they and their husbands decide to celebrate being reunited with a fun night out of town. The next morning, the wives get together and agree that being drunk and having drunk husbands isn't that much fun. They decide to put the men on a diet consisting of salads and tulips.

Mr. Clausen and Mr. Olsen are doing laundry, and in the detergent boxes they find coupons for participating in a competition for a trip to Bali. Clausen submits his coupon but Olsen does not. Soon after, Clausen learns that he has won the competition which makes Olsen jealous. The detergent company wants to do a photo shoot with Mrs. Clausen, who soon gets fed up with the whole thing.

Meyer is watching Karla's son Bimmer while she is at the hairdressers. When Clausen needs help downstairs, Meyer leaves Bimmer alone in the apartment. When Egon comes home and finds Bimmer alone, he takes him over to Emma in Rottehullet, so that she can look after him until Karla gets home. When Karla gets home and finds Bimmer missing, all hell breaks loose.

There has been theft at a watchmaker and the police suspects Larsen, who has an alibi, but the only witness proves hard to find. While being shadowed by the police, Larsen comes up with a traditional Larsen way of create a new and perfect alibi.

Olsen's son William is in love, and it's now his dads responsibility to tell him about the facts of life.

Meyer is acting like a cock doing mating season. This leads to a lengthy discussion about birdsong between the tenants of the house. Clausen suggest that they go on a bird watching trip. Olsen takes the role as chairman of planning, Meyer signs up to be the samaritan, and Egon will provide the liquid refreshments.

Egon, being very interested in international relations, is studying French and ends up falling in love with his teacher, or maybe the teacher made him interested in those relations to begin with. After having a fight, Karla kicks him out and he ends up staying with Emma in the backroom at Rottehullet.

The next day, Mrs. Olsen finds lipstick on the collar of her husband's shirt, but being mature adults, Mrs. Olsen knows that it's nothing serious and Mr. Olsen tells everyone, that he believes in marriage equality. But this is easier said than done.

Clausen thinks that Bo is the father, but Lise tells him, that she has come to Copenhagen, in order to meet father, Jimmy.

Larsen inherits the personal belongings of an associate from the old days by the name of Ludwig. Among the few items is a letter, asking Larsen to settle the score with the fence who cheated Ludwig out of the money from the theft of a valuable bracelet.

Bo is getting married and is moving out of the apartment in the attic. He leaves behind unpaid bills for beer, food, and other items. Good thing that his friends are more than willing to pay on his behalf. Olsen, Clausen, and Egon all fight over what to do with the newly available space.

Mr. Olsen is turning 50 and is feeling a bit depressed. Everyone decides to throw him a birthday party over in Rottehullet.

The house at Christianshavn is haunted. The ball from the handrail is floating and Mr. Olsen has a new drinking buddy that only he an see. All of this started when Mrs. Hammerstedt took delivery of an old dresser.

A few of the tenants at the house at Christianshavn have become practicing chamber music at the widow Mrs. Hammerstedts apartment.

Karla and Egon are spending the vinter in Mallorca while the rest of the house's tenants decide to spend the vinter at a cottage.

Gambling debt is a matter of honour, and unfortunately for Mrs. Hammerstedt, her deceased spouse managed to accrue a lot of it. The house rallies behind her and hatch a plan for how she can get the money back.

Egon buys a Citroên 1939 using the money he and Karla had saved up, but Karla already bought a new washing machine for the money. To make matters worse, the car isn't exactly in pristine condition, despite the dealer proving Egon with roadworthiness certificate.

Air Date: 1977-11-19

The widow Mrs. Hammerstedt is choosing the results on her football betting ticket by spinning a picture frame of her deceased spouse, but the picture frame doesn't quiet agree with her own predictions. Later in the week, when she needs money, she sells half of the betting ticket to Karla, who is convinced that they are going to win big and Mrs. Hammerstedt can't wait to spend their winning.

4. Old friends and favours

Tue stops by the older neighbourhood and asks his old friends for help with a survey he is conducting. After Tue uses a lot of big words and no one really understands what the survey is about, they agree to help him. Later, when everyone is gathered at Rottehullet trying to help Tue, Rikke stop by, and she is not happy. Tue hasn't really changed in the years since the two lived at the house at Christianshavn, and he has run out of household tasks as usual. At this point, another former tenant stops by, Bo. He to as come to ask his former friends for help with a project on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

5. Over and out

Air Date: 1977-12-17

Olsen's boss at the moving company has passed away, and Olsen is offered the opportunity to buyout his moving van by the widow. Olsen decides to buy the van and become an independent mover. But first he jumps on the latest trend and installs a radio in the van.

The house at Christianshavn is being demolished and everyone is moving on with their lives, almost everyone.
